Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

We are nearing the end of the college football regular season-rivalry weekend and championship weekend coming up.

Our 21st annual Pearl Harbor Day golf tournament is upon us-December 5th. It is not too late to get your hole sponsorship at $25 or to sign up your foursome.

New Year’s Eve Party tickets go on sale for $10 for 316 Family (TAL, ALA, SAL, ALR) members only on December 3rd, then for all others on December 9th. First come, first served. We also have raffle tickets for the basket of cheer at $1 for one ticket and $5 for six tickets. Drawing will be at 9 PM at the New Year’s Eve Party. Please bring a dish to share to the party.

Despite publicizing in the newsletter and hi-lighting it on the email notes, we continue to get credit card dues payments. We do not process credit cards for anything and the Department quit processing credit cards for all Posts. Dues must be paid by cash or check. You can pay by credit card online to www.legion.org . We can only return your renewal notice with the credit card information and ask that you pay in some other manner. This obviously slows everything down.

The Toys 4 Tots bin will be at the Post until about 3 PM on the 12th. Please bring a new and unwrapped gift for the needy. If you play bingo and bring in a toy, you get a free card to the first jackpot game.

The Auxiliary Christmas Party will be the 14th at 7 PM. Please bring a dish to share and a gift if you’d like to participate in the gift exchange.

The Riders Christmas Party will be the 20th. Please bring a side dish to share and gift if you’d like to participate in the gift exchange.

The bartenders will be checking all membership cards during December as a courtesy reminder that 2019 cards expire December 31st. Please be ready to show your card as they are just doing their job.

The Department Commander and Department President will be at Post 316 at 7 PM on the 7th. Come out and meet your state leaders.

With the new Legion eligibility established by Congress which makes the eligibility period consecutive from December 7th, 1941, to a date to be determined by Congress, anyone who has served one day anywhere in the world and either has an honorable discharge or is still serving is now eligible to join. Please make one of your New Year’s resolutions to recruit one new member into Post 316.

The Post is in need of a Finance Officer. If you know Quickbooks and can spend a couple of hours a week processing the bartenders payroll and paying Post bills, please volunteer. Either talk to the Commander or attend a Post meeting and talk to us about it.

Remember, with the Legion Act now the law of the land, everyone who has served one day anywhere in the world and has an honorable discharge or is still on active duty is eligible to join The American Legion.

Hopefully, our second dart league will have formed and start play in September.

NFL season is here-wear NGL logo clothes on Sundays and get a discount on your drink.

October Newsletter

First, I apologize for the delay in emailing the newsletter out to everyone.  We had some issues with the groupings with our email client which prevented me from sending it out.   Hopefully it won’t happen next time.  This new email system has two email addresses for the Post. The one I’m we used for the newsletter, alpost316@post316.onmicrosoft.com, is supposed to be robust enough for the entire newsletter to go to the entire group. You may have to check your spam folder to make sure it gets to your inbox. The other one, alpost316@bellsouth.com, is the one to use when sending emails to the Post and is at the top of the newsletter.  Please use the bellsouth.com one if you have any questions, comments, add events, etc.

Some points worth mentioning:

  • The Chief Selectees did a great job painting the canteen and meeting room, and pressure washing the pavilion and back porch.
  • The Legion and Auxiliary still have vacant offices on page 2. Just attend a meeting and volunteer.
  • Our website is up (as you can see or you wouldn’t be reading this). If you have ideas or want to help keeping it up to date, let us know.  Our 3rd Vice is always looking for help.
  • The first Auxiliary dues notice is out and has the incorrect dues rate on it. See the article on page 1.

Events:

  • October 6th is a big day-Riders meeting, fun run and rifle drawing-tickets are still available at $10 each. The Auxiliary is holding Octoberfest in the evening. The SAL meeting is also on the schedule.
  • October 8th: Legion and Auxiliary meetings at 8:00 PM.
  • October 18th: Riders Wing Night and karaoke.
  • October 27th: Riders Zombie run with face painting in the morning. Kids Halloween party. Adult Halloween party. Auxiliary Witches Brew Dinner and Cake Walk.

Be sure to check out all the specials in the From the Bar section on page 2.

Have a wonderful October!

American Legion: “We Believe”

The American Legion has launched a new campaign titled “We Believe”. From American Legion National Headquarters:

We Believe is a new PSA from The American Legion. The PSA shines a light on the values of the organization — patriotism, a strong national security, support for all veterans and a strong desire to turn today’s youth into tomorrow’s leaders.

Through historic and current imagery, We Believe highlights Legionnaires in action and shows the impact of hundreds of American Legion programs and activities that strengthen the nation.

For 100 years, veterans have been building our nation through The American Legion. We believe it makes a difference. We invite you to join us by airing the We Believe PSA.”
