Membership

American Legion Post 316 is made up of four constituent organizations: The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and Legion Riders. Each organization has its own rules for membership, which are summarized below. Post 316 welcomes new membership inquiries and invites you to read through the requirements for membership and to find the organization that is right for you.

Eligibility Dates: 

April 6, 1971 to current. Merchant Marine eligible only from December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (WWII).

The American Legion: 

If you have served on federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces  and have been honorably discharged or are still serving — you are eligible for membership in The American Legion.

New Members: $40

Early Bird (Before 12 NOV): $35

Renewal (12 NOV and after): $40

3-Year Membership: $100

Seniors (60 and over): $32

Seniors 3-Year Membership: $90

American Legion Auxiliary: 

Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary shall be limited to the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion, and to the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during any of the following periods and died in the line of duty during such service, or who, having received an Honorable Discharge, died after service.

New Members: $30

Early Bird: (Before 12 NOV) $28

Renewal: (12 NOV and after) $30

Seniors (60 and over): $25

Junior Girls (Under 18): $5

Sons of the American Legion: 

All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of The American Legion and such male descendants of veterans who died in Service during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Granada, Panama, the Persian Gulf War, and the War on Terrorism, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, Section 1 of the National Constitution of The American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for Membership in the Sons of The American Legion.

Adults (21 and over): $15

3-Year Membership (Adults): $40

Dual Members (TAL / SAL): $10

Minors (20 and under): $10

3-Year Membership Dual Members / Minors: $25

American Legion Riders: 

The following requirements pertain to participation in The American Legion Riders-

  • Members must hold membership in and be in good standing with The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion.
  • Members must be legally registered motorcycle owners or be the legally registered owner’s spouse within the state of registration.
  • All operators must be properly licensed and insured per state laws.
  • All members must obey motor-vehicle laws in the state in which they are operating a motorcycle or riding as a passenger.

Lifetime Membership: $150
